Reminder: use inner to inner measurement (short axis/transverse view of vessel, calipers top to bottom).
Generally used for planning AV Fistulas and Bypass procedures
- Document basilic vein from upper arm to wrist (6 images): 3 above antecubital, 3 below antecubital
- Document cephalic vein from upper arm to wrist (6 images): 3 above antecubital, 3 below antecubital
**mark location of veins with indelible marker when appropriate**
Annotate appropriate worksheed
- Place copy in chart or fax (call to notify)
- Scan into Synapse PACS
SAM protocol -- US to plan AV dialysis fistula::
- Tourniquet near axilla helpful to dilate veins helpful
- Show proximal UE veins (axillary, subclavian) with spectral doppler. Should show waveform respiratory variation. Document patency.
- Note anatomic variants (such as high branch point of radial artery). Draw on worksheet.
- Doppler radial artery at wrist, brachial artery at antecubital level. Note any significant atherosclerotic change.
